4th Year PhD/Postdoc transition

G.E.N.E. Mentor Program description

• 1 to 12 months PhD or post-doc salary

Attention: due to Human Resources processing time, the earliest start date for all contracts will be in September from the application year. Post-doc contracts will start after the completion of the PhD.

Eligibility criteria to become a G.E.N.E. Mentor

• To be in the process of obtaining a PhD in a doctoral school integrated into our Graduate School G.E.N.E. (HOB, BioSPC) and in a laboratory affiliated to Université Paris Cité
  • For applications to a 4th year of PhD funding, to be in the 3rd year of the doctoral contract when applying
  • For transition post-doc applicants, to have an estimated defense date before the end of the civil year
• To work on a subject linked to our Graduate School G.E.N.E. (genetics or epigenetics in the broad sense)
• Not yet benefited from this funding program
• Have submitted a complete application form during the opening period of calls for projects

Documents Required

It will be necessary to upload a pdf file (max 2Mb), that you can prepare in advance, containing:

1) The research proposal (3 pages max)

• State of the art (1/2 page and 5 references)
• General objectives of the PhD project
• Results obtained during the PhD (1 page)
• Specific research aims for the funding period
• Research plan, expected results, and outcomes for the G.E.N.E. Mentor period.
• Justification for the number of months requested
• Relevance to the missions of the G.E.N.E. Graduate School
• 5 major publications (recent) of the host team(s) with names of doctoral students underlined

2) Your CV (1 page max)

3) Your list of publications

4) A personal statement (1 page max) including your career goals after the G.E.N.E. funding and a description of your motivation for becoming a G.E.N.E. Mentor and the mentoring initiatives that you would like to participate in.

5) 1 page max for:

• If 4th year application:  a letter from your Ph.D. advisor to support your application
• If transition post-doc applications: a statement committing to the Ph.D. defense before the end of civil year.

6) A list of previous financial support to the team from the G.E.N.E. Graduate School.

All the above should be fused into a single PDF file entitled YOURNAME_G.E.N.E._Mentors_2026.pdf

The documents can be written in ENGLISH or in FRENCH

Important: Incomplete applications will not be processed. Ensure all required documents are present in the final file before submission.

Application Timeline:

Opening: Mid-March, 2026

Deadline: April 30^th, 2026

Notifications: Mid-June, 2026

Applicants will be notified of the decision via email.

If the decision is positive, you commit to :

• Include our G.E.N.E. logo, clearly visible, in all your presentations.
• Attend and participate in ALL the events of G.E.N.E. during the funding period.
• Include in any publications or report: “…was supported by the EUR G.E.N.E. Graduate School (reference #ANR 17 EURE 0013) and is part of the Université Paris Cité IdEx #ANR 18 IDEX 0001 funded by the French Government through its ‘Investments for the Future’ program.”
